Varieties of EnglishAssuming a dialect and/or accent intelligible to the aeronautical community, a candidate’s demonstration of language proficiency in the CAAi EALTS is acceptable in varieties of English which would enable the candidate to function in the widest range of international contexts. A candidate is expected to use a particular variety with some degree of consistency, and not, for example switch from using a word or pronunciation common in British English to an alternative North American equivalent. A mutually comprehensible variety of English is desirable, and in the context of aviation communications, necessary at all times. CAA International EALTS assessors will apply common sense and good judgement in this matter. 1 1 c.f. ICAO Doc 9835 Ch.2 ICAO SARPs concerning Language Proficiency Requirements 2.7 & 2.8 |
