Varieties of English

Candidates’ responses to tasks in the EALT Test of Speaking are acceptable in varieties of English which would enable candidates to function in the widest range of international operational contexts. Candidates are expected to use a particular variety with some degree of consistency in areas such as pronunciation, structure and vocabulary. 1

Irrelevance

The examiner’s first priority is to give credit for the candidate’s efforts at communication. However, candidates will be penalised for inclusion of content irrelevant to the task or tasks set.
